Silence and stillness before God (2 Min)

Read Philippians 1:1-11

Jesus does all the work

Verses 3-6

We are not alone. We not only have each other, but we also have Christ.
Have you ever been so confident of something that you knew for a fact that you knew it was true? I’m not talking about something you hope to be true, but something you know is true, like standing in rain and being confident it’s raining.
Paul had that kind of confidence. He was confident that Jesus not only started a good work in them, but that Jesus was the one to finish it. John 6:29 says that the only thing we add to the work of Christ is belief. Paul, in Galatians 2:20, says the life we now live is by faith in Jesus. It’s a trap to believe that we are saved by grace, but after that everything else is up to us. It becomes exhausting to try to finish what only Christ can finish. We can rest because everything in our lives – in the hands of the Holy Spirit – is working to accomplish the finished work of redemption.

What did Jesus start in you?
What is He going to finish?
If he is doing all the work, what do you do? What do you think?
Is that encouraging?

Lord, forgive me that I have more confidence in what I can do than what you have done. Thank you that you started the work of grace in my life and you promise to finish that work. In your kindness and mercy, would you teach me to live by faith so I can have confidence in your work in me and those I love?
