Work it Out

Verses 12-13
We already studied that Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. Paul even says, “it’s God who works in you.” If he does all the work, what do we do? Obey! This isn’t a call to legalism, as if we can add anything to the accomplished work of Christ. No, this is an invitation to see and live in that which is already true about us. When we obey we are bringing what’s inside of us (new life, Spirit of God, righteousness) to the surface of our lives. We are working it out! So why do we do this with fear and trembling? We are aware of the holiness of God and the work that he is doing inside of us, but we are also aware of our personal weakness, and our love for sin. So we commit ourselves to obedience to mature in the living reality of what’s most true about us. We are loved, changed and God’s sons and daughters.

Where do you find it hard to obey?
When you don’t obey does it cause you to doubt who you are in Christ?
How does being trapped in sin change what we believe to be true? How can your brothers and sisters help you?
