Gospel Friendship,  Step 1

One of the fruits of the gospel in Paul’s life was deep friendship. His friendships went deeper than Titans football and TPS reports. (Can you guess what movie that’s from?)

It seems that Paul was never alone, but always worked and did life with other believers. Looking at his example will tell us a lot about the kind of friends we need and the kind of friend we need to be to others.

Two of Paul’s friends are mentioned in this chapter–Timothy and Epaphroditus. What kind of men did Paul call friend and brother? Timothy was a man that cared about the wellbeing of others. His care for others is called genuine, sincere, faithful.

He didn’t see people as something to use. They were not problems or obstacles to get around to get what he wanted.  He took a deep interest in who they were and their story. The love of Christ abounded in him through loving others to the degree that he became a part of their story.

Who are the friends God has placed in your life?

What would it look like to take a genuine interest in their lives?

What would it look like to let them take a sincere interest in your life?
