Knowing Christ and the power of suffering
Wait, I want to know Jesus, but I’m not so sure about this suffering part. Sorry to say that they are a package deal. The more we are willing to walk into the sufferings of this world, the more we know our Jesus. Mother Teresa spent her whole life stepping into the sufferings of this world, and from that place she said:
“Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.”
Stepping into suffering of others with Christ is powerful, for it brings compassion, kindness, healing and hope. It’s not just compassion, kindness, healing and hope for others–oftentimes, it’s for me. Willingness to share in suffering clears the fog of what is truly valuable.
Where do you suffer?
