Midtown recovery groups are meant to provide a safe haven to share our stories, our struggles, and our needs. It is safe because we are with others who can handle the realities of who we are and where we are today, because they’ve been there. But it is also safe because it is rooted in the timeless truth about who we are in Christ—and just how caring and merciful our God is. Jesus didn’t just teach and emulate a healthy way of living, he died to secure it on our behalf and sent his Spirit to abide with us and guide us in that truth on our journey. And he gave us community to be one as Christ is one with his Father, so that if one part of the body of Christ hurts, we all feel pain and participate in its healing through relationship.
Midtown recovery groups are not intended to be a substitute for a small group Bible study, nor a 12-step group or counseling. Recovery groups are specifically intended to help us break our will free from bondage and reorient it into a joyous freedom we might otherwise never know, which can require more monitoring and support. And for those who’ve been given this gift of hope and connection, we serve because we keep it by giving it away. Help is found here; we are not alone.
