Job Summary:

The Middle School Youth Coordinator role is best-suited to candidates who are humble, hard-working, curious and courageous. Most importantly, we desire someone who is growing in personal intimacy with Jesus and is learning to follow him, be changed by him, and go on mission with him. Midtown Youth is seeking an individual who will support the every-day responsibilities of our middle school ministry, serving alongside the greater Youth staff to create a ministry of gospel transformation for every middle school student at Midtown and their circle of friends.

Any given week, the Middle School Coordinator could be involved in the following:

  • Engaging in a 1-on-1 or 1-on-2 conversation with MS students about what following Jesus means
  • Envisioning and leading a game for Sunday Youth group
  • Teaching/framing a passage of Scripture for a group of students and leaders
  • Coordinating volunteers for a Youth Family event
  • Designing and/or troubleshooting the flow of Youth group on a Sunday
  • Coordinating the ordering and pickup of food for a Youth event
  • Preparing paper materials for a Youth event
  • Reflecting on a Youth event with the Youth Staff to determine best practices moving forward
  • Coordinating a team of Youth leaders for setup or cleanup

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Model/teach Youth core values & mission/vision statements
  • Intentionally build relationships with middle school students & parents across the Midtown movement
  • Partner with the Youth staff to offer relational/intentional/biblical care of middle school students
  • Establish regular pathways of parent partnership in the work of student recruitment & discipleship
  • Envision a thriving Middle School Ministry at Midtown and find ways to bring your specific gifts & passions to bear in making those dreams a reality
  • Serve alongside the Youth volunteer team as a middle school boys’ small group leader
  • Participate in Youth Camp & Retreat planning/execution/evaluation under leadership of the Executive Director & Assistant Director
  • Participate in weekly Youth Group & monthly Special Event planning/execution/evaluation
  • Facilitate the middle school Youth worship experience on Sundays – coordinating A/V volunteers, adult worship leaders, and student worship team each week

Education, Skills, and Experience:

The preferred candidate will have:
  • College degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of previous experience in vocational youth ministry
  • A passion for reaching middle school students
  • Gifts of leadership, shepherding, evangelism and hospitality
Additional skills and experience:
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Proficient with computer applications and social media
  • Comfortable in front of large groups of people
Personal characteristics:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Able to work with many different personalities, ages, and cultures
  • Curious and eager to learn new skills
  • Teachable spirit; willingness to be developed through observation, collaboration and reflection

The person in this role may work extended hours, evenings, over weekends, and sometimes on short notice. They must also be comfortable lifting 25 pounds and working on their feet for long periods of time.
