Job Summary

The Midtown Fellowship Youth Ministry exists for every Middle School and High School student at Midtown and their friends. This key leadership role aims to expand our capacity to bring the good news of Jesus to the preteens and teenagers in a compelling and sticky way, overseeing their spiritual formation in support of Midtown’s mission to create a movement of gospel transformation in Nashville through multiple congregations.

At Midtown, we have one (1) Youth Ministry, separated into MS and HS, that serves 6-12th grades for our church of 2,500 attendees. Our church comprises six (6) congregations, and the Director of Youth Ministry is tasked with developing high-performing partnerships with congregational teams and volunteers to grow creative, dynamic, gospel-centered ministry for middle school and high school students.

The Director of Youth Ministry will work closely with the Assistant Director of Youth and with Senior Leadership to provide visionary oversight and pastoral leadership to both the Middle School and High School ministries, and will directly oversee the Youth Team.

The Director of Youth Ministry is a full-time position and may work extended hours, evenings, over weekends and public holidays, and on short notice. As a member of the Senior Executive Team, he/she is supervised by the Senior Executive and shall become a member of Midtown Fellowship.

Functions

We expect that responsibilities will develop and expand as the ministry grows in its mission. The job holder will oversee the daily workflow of the department, and could serve on various cross-functional teams as a staff representative.

Provide visionary oversight and pastoral leadership to the MS and HS youth ministries:

  • Provide overall pastoral care for the youth, encouraging their spiritual growth and challenging them to grow in their commitment to Christ and His mission
  • Equip, develop, supervise and mentor Youth staff team
  • Attend Elder meetings as invited or requested

Provide individualized support, nurturing of gifts, and mentoring to a variety of people groups:

  • Provide one-to-one mentoring of staff
  • Mentor and develop youth volunteers
  • Lead a Christ-like lifestyle and pray regularly for those in the youth ministry and church body

Education, Skills, and Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An understanding of the needs and has an strong passion for young people to know and grow in Christ (required)
  • 3+ years experience leading and developing teams (required)
  • 5+ years experience working with youth in a ministry setting (church or parachurch)
  • Experience leading large groups and creating strategies to minister to large groups
  • A bachelor’s degree in applicable field
  • An active and committed Christian faith with beliefs and lifestyle consistent with the doctrine of the PCA
  • Articulates and lives into a Gospel-centered, missional understanding of the church
  • Demonstrates the ability to lead by example, equip, and disciple youth

Additional skills and experience:

  • Regular experience teaching in front of groups of people
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to build high-performing teams
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Proficient with computer applications and social media
