Talking Back: How to Help Kids Communicate Emotions

Thursday, November 10, 2022
7:00 - 9:00 PM

Details

Kids have all the feels – sadness, grief, anger, joy – just to name a few. It can be hard to help them put words to what they’re feeling and help them know how to handle them. We are excited to be partnering with Daystar Counselors Amy Jacobs and Don Logan as they help us navigate the language of emotions in our children. We’d encourage you to invite your friends! Please register for yourself and for those you are bringing with you.

What you can expect:

  1. Learn to accurately name emotions to move through them faster
  2. Understand what’s happening in your child’s brain when they experience emotional overload and how to help

Meet the Counselors

Amy Jacobs

Amy first crossed paths with our directors when she worked for Lifeway and helped host girls’ events that Melissa and Sissy were apart of. Years down the road, her love of girls led her to seek her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Trevecca University and become our girls’ counseling intern at Daystar. Amy is passionate about helping little girls and big girls learn that they have everything they need inside to face whatever is coming their way. She also passionate about group counseling and the change that happens when you get a group of kids together. She acts as our Co-Director of Groups. Amy’s favorite hobby is interior design and she has been a freelance writer for Better Homes and Gardens, so she especially loves working in an office as adorable as Daystar’s little yellow house!

Don Logan

While Don spent much of his career running a structural engineering company, he always felt pulled towards kids and families and even spent time as an assistant pastor. He got to know Melissa as a teenager and their paths crossed again when Don entered the counseling field discovering that Daystar was the perfect place for him to work. Don graduated from Lipscomb University with his Masters in Marriage and Family therapy, Biblical Studies, and Theological Studies. He now counsels boys as well as helps lead groups and day camps with gentleness, wisdom and warmth.
